Only recently I became a member of a lady's only motorcycle group. The name says it all: Free Wheelin'. I went to their meeting, and was impressed by the huge number of members showing up (and on time!). It was well organized, with topics guided by an agenda, and it was truly better than any of the recent business meetings I had attended. I felt very welcome, liked their program and signed up.
After the meeting I had the chance to say hi to some of the ladies, and instantly connected with an(other) all-year-rounder. We exchanged contact information, which consequently and pleasantly lead to an email exchange for a Good Friday ride.
Yvonne is a hardcore dirt-bikeress turned street-rider. This is her on her fairly new Yamaha V-Star 950.
Since she is a local she lead the way and took me on back roads that I haven't explored before (and probably wound have never considered going).
At one of our stops we were wondering which idiot came up with this motorcycle parking 'design'. It is obvious that the planner was not a rider (and probably otherwise challenged as well).
So we conveniently parked our bikes somewhere else, stretched our legs, and enjoyed the view.
We spent about six hours on the road, only interrupted by food intake (sorry no picture of the nevertheless tasty crab sandwich), and a little walk. Thanks, Yvonne for great company and conversation. It was a Good Friday, indeed.
Distance: 193km (120 mls)
Weather: sunny, balmy 14C (57F), calm
It's always nice to either show someone else one's "out of the way" roads or have said roads shown to you....

Always great meeting new people, and biking has a great way of doing that.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, your comment (and on time!) made me laugh, in my house whenever we go someplace I'm always ready to go at the determined leaving time but my wife and daughter are always late :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with the parking for motorcycles? are those hooks?
Good ride and good company - can't beat a day like that!
ReplyDeleteYour west coast riding season is almost convincing me to switch coasts ... great photos, thanks for sharing. (I like Yvonne already - she rides a VStar!)
ReplyDeleteAhh...new friends, new roads, new destinations. Sounds like the perfect day. An the only good thing that I can say about those motorcycle parking spots is that the huge rocks will keep most of the cars from accidentally backing into them.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good day.

Looks like you had a beautiful day to ride!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the motorcycle parking area... you should have taped a note to the rocks... "thanks, but no thanks!" lol! Maybe whoever created that parking area would figure it out.
Looks like a great day Sonja and you have added a new riding buddy too.
ReplyDeleteThat motorcycle specific parking does look odd. I can understand the rocks around the edges for maybe trying to keep cars and trucks out of it, but I don't think the engineer who designed it was a rider.
Don't you just love those out of the way roads. Glad you had a great ride.
ReplyDelete@Charlie6: Dom, it is amazing what's still to discover, although I though I was getting around quite well on my own.
ReplyDelete@Raftnn: So true, Roger. It's great to meet people who can just be and ride.
@George F: I believe the club takes it very serious, and that's great. I couldn't figure out what the hooks are for, because you can't get a chain in there. Stupid!
@Ken: Indeed! It doesn't get better than this.
@VStarLady: Well, come on over. Guaranteed year round riding available (if you don't mind the rain).
@BeemerGirl: Protection of the bikes? I haven't thought of that one, because you hardly can maneuver the bike in there. Well, Nella might, but the rocks were too close for a VStar to fit through.
@LadyRidesalot: Next time I will bring a Post-It exactly saying that! Good one!
@Trobairitz: I don't know what the planner had in mind. Some metal poles would have done a better job for protection. The rocks only keep the bikes out of there.
@motoroz: You bet. It was a great day.
I don't know, the way some of us ride, the motorcycle parking space makes sense.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need a parking lot. We need a landing pad!
I'm so impressed. You get some really nice long rides in. Makes me feel like a wimp with my piddly little rides. Nice ride report, and nice that you got to share it with a new riding buddy! :)
ReplyDelete@irondad: Now, that makes sense!
ReplyDelete@bluekat: Thanks, Kari. But hey, every ride is a good ride. I only did two dozen miles today on the Vespa, and still call it a ride. Every outing on two wheels counts.
