Three Miles a Day for 90 Days

I admit it. The weather kept holding me back from riding. Yes, I occasionally scootered around on Paolo but I didn't bother awakening my Sporty.

Instead I spent much time on my feet, walking on every occasion rain or shine, three miles a day, and on the weekend often more. The daily exercise combined with a rigorous change in diet, has lead to healthy benefits such as weight loss, a good night's sleep, and improvement of overall wellness.

The every day walk has become easy after overcoming what we call the 'Innerer Schweinehund' in German (along the lines of 'fighting the inner sloth'). At times I would come home from an outing in the dark, soaking wet, half frozen and dirty, just happy for it to be over, and on other occasions I would go the extra mile, just to enjoy the evening light a little longer.
Life is good!
(Even with the motorcycle parked....)

I'm so glad that you take a daily walk - I try to myself and it's what Charles Darwin did !

I see all the others around me jogging there way to an early coronary arrest.

    Cheers from Wiesbaden!

    1. Nikos, it was so hard to begin and now is so easy to maintain. Jogging is not for me... they always look so unhappy to me, as if they don't like what they are doing.

    2. I think it's suppressed pain. Walking in my beloved Tatton Park is such a joy - watching the swans and ducks performing perfect landings on the lake!

I really like that. Good job being able to continue especially through the winter. I must admit that many times I end up going to the athletic club and walking on the treadmill due to the weather. Today was one of those days. We are getting dumped on with snow and the sidewalks and roads are treacherous.

    1. Richard, you were my inspiration on my journey to walk regularly.

Naturally you have to exercise indoors more than I. Although our weather conditions are something to moan about, it is always warm enough to actually walk outside. I am not a big fan of gyms and treadmills often seem to do a number on my spine.

  4. I've always believed the active things I play at directly effect my enjoyment of riding....and, improve my odds of riding more years. You mentioned the changes you've experienced. Good for you. Keep it moving one step at a time.

  5. That last photo is so pretty Sonja. You need to enlarge it and frame it.

Kudos to you for keeping up on the walking. We have been weather weenies and haven't walked at all in the rain. So much for our 3 miles a day we were walking. Congrats on getting healthier. We could all use a little of that.

    1. The live act was even better, that light was incredible. Walking in the rain kept getting better once I figured out the right gear to keep my head and feet dry...

    2. It's always about the gear, isn't it? :)

  7. Well done....I like walking home from the bar down the road, that is about the extent of my exercise....I might need to work on that.

    1. Some need more exercise than others... you are probably one of the lucky guys with healthy metabolism, like my hubby. I still need to do so much more.

  8. Sonja I admire your discipline. I should be doing the same as you, but find myself a victim of a total lack of stick-to-it-iveness. That photo, by the way, is simply stunning. All the best, d.
