Here are few snapshots from my dreadful daily commute through the suburbs of Vancouver. There are not many spots to pull over, but the route is nothing to write home about anyway.
It starts in the parkade.
Today, an Asian lady in a big sedan is violating my right of way.
"Sorry, I didn't see you."
Well, I am sure that she noticed the distinct gesture I gave her.
On the first 3 kilometers, a total of 9 traffic lights can easily take up 10 minutes of my riding time.
Lining up with the four wheelers at yet another red light.
The final stretch to work.
Paolo parked in his designated parking spot at work.
Since I am a nice coworker I offer to share.
My favourite view on my way home.
Alas, today the mountain range is obscured by clouds.
The final stretch home. I can smell the ocean.
Sharing. Very sweet. Those are some tiny parking spots!
ReplyDeleteBet that mountain is gorgeous when it is visible.
The parking spots are indeed tiny, and usually occupied by pick-up trucks (not that you actually need those in the city). It is always funny to watch the drivers try and get that fat asses out of their vehicles ;-)
DeleteYou have a lot more serious riding than I do with a lot more fumes! But you have a big beautiful city and even these photos are beautiful to me. Your residental view back home is so lovely. And to smell the ocean!
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating!
Some days, there are indeed a lot of fumes but even more so a good portion of fresh air being so close to the water. I live close to the inlet, and there is always a whiff of the salt marsh lingering in the air, especially at low tide.
DeleteOh, I wish I were close enough to the ocean to smell it. And I love the mountain view. Even when cloud-obscured. I don't commute, so can't join in. But I enjoyed your post!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes can avoid commuting by working from home, but some days still require my presence.
DeleteNot a bad commute other than the traffic. Nice view of the mountains coming home even if a little obscured by clouds, I can tell they are there.
ReplyDeleteThe mountain and inlet view is my little daily vacation.
DeleteAh you just had a SMIDSY. Sorry mate I didn't see you as we call em here. Sorry don't commute to work so cant post.
ReplyDeleteHappens way too often, but this time it happened after 50m of riding.
DeleteSonja you have a lovely commute even with the traffic, at least they keep ya on your toes :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to join in with this challenge, but my commute looks so boring, suburban streets, not even a set of lights. Plus I'm still on holidays so I'm not going anywhere near work til I have to!!
I definitely understand the concept of holidays and not getting anywhere near work... good for you, and enjoy your time off.
DeleteI love your sense of humor! I can see where part of your commute can raise the blood flow. We can't compete there; you have 9.28 more folks in your city than we do: 603,000 just in the city, versus our 65,000.
ReplyDeleteHowever! The smell of the salt marsh? To me that's worth almost as much as a ton of gold. Lucky you! Not to mention the mountains.
Thanks for the pics, they inspire me. I need to carry more nails in my pocket.
Well done!
Yeah, population densitity is a bit higher, but still ok compared to the area I used to live in when in Germany.
DeleteThe inlet where I live has a (max.) tidal range of 4,69m or 14.6ft. The marsh grass is high this time of the year, and we have a a bit of wildlife around (bald eagles, bears, deer) although it is still fairly urban.
Great idea to photograph your usual ride to work. I'll have to try it soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to photograph your ride to work! I'll have to work on doing that too. I wish I lived by mountains and an ocean!
ReplyDeleteI don't like traffic either, but I have always imagined Vancouver as a beautiful city, which it seems to show with that hillside vista. The mountains and the sea? Oh, now THAT is awesome! I can just smell that salt air and hear the rumble of the scoot as she travels along the hillside...sweet!
