Intermot Interlude

Cologne, Germany. The huge motorcycle trade show with over a 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries on more than 100,000 square meters (over a million of sq ft) of floor space only happens every two years, with Sunday being the last day of the event.
I arrived Saturday afternoon for a quick stint in Germany. So, talk about timing. Taking in the full scope of this event would probably require two days at the minimum but I only managed to free up a few hours of my busy schedule.
I couldn't do more than rushing through the six halls, and did barely stop for pictures. Too much too see, and so little time.
The fully loaded new BMW scooter, maybe an upgrade for hubby?
An old GS, my dream cycle of the early 90's
 The future of three wheeling?
With a joystick instead of handle bars
The ladies were still sitting on the bikes when I passed them an hour later. I wonder if their butts hurt.
A nice contrast to all those muscle bikes.
I had a DR once, it looked different though.
The new Moto Guzzi Stelvio putting sexy into adventure bike.

If I lived in Europe, the Guzzi cafe racer in flat black would be high on my wish list.
 Horex, the legend is back.
Hmmm, 1200cc - six (!) cylinders
 An engineering masterpiece
Beyond my budget, not that this marque will ever make it to Canada in the first place.
Look, there's Triumph! Not sure what's going on in the foreground though.
Triumph had a big ass booth, what a contrast to the manufacturer's continued absenteeism during all those shows in Seattle or Vancouver.
Brambling
 A scrambler in flat grey
We'll never get that in Canada...
This made my day: a Royal Enfield Cafe Racer

How different the European market is from the North American. There was an abundance of motorcycles in the smaller engine displacement area, tons of scooters, and an extra hall for e-bikes.
I just got to see the tip of the iceberg, and was running out of time but I was glad I could be there if ever so briefly.

  1. Very cool!!! That you got to go. I kept hitting refresh on the motorcycle news websites, every hour, last week to see the latest stories on the show. Thanks for posting the pictures!

  2. Regarding the girls: just look at the shoes ... they have to sit down! Running around on these shoes works for a few minutes only. That's the trick ... ;-)

Excellent reason for being in Germany! Some wonderful photos and you still look great on a Triumph. Come to the Dark Side, my child

  8. Wow. So glad that you were able to spend some time there. It is so interesting to see some of the bikes that will never make it in the US. :(. Did anything foldable make it in the suitcase for a trip home?

  11. What a fun opportunity to catch the show! But doesn't it bother you to see all the bikes that'll never show up at your local dealer?

  13. Thanks all for your comments. It was short and good fun, and it bugs me a bit that I will never see some of those models on Canadian roads. A pity really :-(

  14. WOW. So awesome you could attend if only for a few hours. I think you've made us all jealous. What a difference between that show and the one in Seattle.

  15. I really enjoy your blog even when I have no idea what you are gushing over...my knowledge of motorcycles is slim. But as works of design I can love them, too.

So when all this cycle stuff settles down I would love a post about tea. You say you are a tea drinker, and so am I. :^ )

  16. It's impressive that a trade show of that magnitude devoted to PTWs also manages to keep abreast on the odd ATV, so to speak. That would never happen here :)

  17. Sonja, your shot of the two girls sitting on top of that orange motorcycle, which I at first glance took to be a twin of my Ural, inspired the ending to this post I'd been recently working on: LINK

Hope you approve of the linkage....

  18. The flat black Moto Guzzi was the hottest thing at that show, at least in your pictures.
