Finally! 2021 has arrived, and we almost missed it due to its silent entrance. Fireworks and gatherings fell victim to the pandemic regulations, so it had been a very quiet evening, and we were absorbed in eating raclette (a Swiss dish) and playing board games.
The good stuff:
No losses (thankfully), family and friends are well.
Camping trips in Germany: Bavaria (Allgäu and Altmühl valley), Hegau and Odenwald (our new playground)
Vacation in Austria
A new job for Roland and relocation to the Rhine-Neckar region ("Kurpfalz", vicinity of Heidelberg)
Various day trips in said area
Over 1300 km (800 mi) of hiking distance accomplished.
The fails:
Hiking the Way of St. James has been put on hold indefinitely und planned events or concerts had been cancelled. But that's about it.

Urlaub in Österreich
Ein neuer Job für Roland und Umzug in die Rhein-Neckar Region (Kurpfalz)
Viele Tagesausflüge in der Region
Über 1300 km gewandert.
Negatives:
I hope you and your family find renewed hope and faith for a better 2021, and some measure of freedom and safety from the pandemic that has forced a different way of existence upon us all.
ReplyDeleteAnd I look forward, as always, to more images of the German landscape as you wander on foot or two wheels.
Happy New Year!
Thank you Steve, for your kind words. All the best for you, too. Keep well and ride on.
DeleteDelighted that you, friends and family have escaped the ravages of C-19 and that there have been many good memories in 2020. All the very best for the coming year!
ReplyDeleteWe have been lucky so far, and hope for the best. Here's to 2021, wishing you health, fun and many miles and smiles.
DeleteHappy New Year to you and Roland! I'm impressed with the 800 miles of hiking. And the walking trip will always be there when things get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteSame to you, Richard. I had the opportunity to go on a lot of day trips, and the area is actually very walkable.
DeleteHappy New Year Sonja! Glad to see you taking the positives out of 2020. Just wondering...do you do any cycling or motorcycling any more?
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dave
Hello Dave, happy new year to you, too. Currently walking/hiking is the main theme. I do use a scooter for commuting. My bicycle sits unused in its shed. I hope for its revival this year.
DeleteHappy New Year to you and Roland, the Way of St James will still be there for you, perhaps later this year with a bit of luck. I like the header pic!
ReplyDeleteSame to you, Dom. As for the header pic I had wished for more snow, but trails have turned to mud since.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you both! Congrats on the hiking miles/km. A very respectable number! I’m looking forward to things opening back up, and seeing all your great pics again. Stay healthy and all the best from both Ron and me.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and Ron the same. I guess hiking will become the only vacation we get for quite some time, but that's fine with me.
