The IJsselmeer offers flat sand beaches and is popular with the kite folks. The wind conditions alas, were far from perfect.
The wadden sea, a nature preserve is formed by the tides. the ocean is very shallow hee forming tidal flats and wetlands, the hinterland is protected from floods by dykes which are maintained by natural lawn mowers a.k.a. sheep.
The dam separating the IJsselmeer from the North Sea is also heavily protected by concrete obstacles. An unusual sign warns from navigating over the barrier.

Schoorlse dunes and the North Sea. While the other two made an instant beeline to the nearest bistro I opted to take a hike along the beach and through the dunes. At the end of my walk I had sand everywhere but it was well worth it.

LG SonjaM
