End of the (French) world: Finistère

Finistère was not the end, instead it was the mere beginning of a new adventure... exploring a new-to-us region.

So much to see, so little time. So we did what all first-time tourists do, and visited the key tourist attractions.

Concarneau and its fortress Ville Close. The old village is only accessible by bridge. The wall is accessible and walkable, which we did. We stacked up on delicatessen (cheese, ham, seafood) and continued our trek along the coast in northwesterly direction.

One of the highest lighthouses in the world is Phare Eckmühl, built in the 19th century.

Nearby we discovered an old church with a ship hull like roof construction.

Coastal drive-by impressions

Some more Megalithic structures and monuments

Pointe du Raz with its rugged rocky cape near Plogoff, at a height of 72 meters it is one of the most characteristic cliffs on the Breton coast.

Locronan, founded as an eremitage in the 6th century, became wealthy through hemp cultivation in the 15th century. Today it is known as one of the most picturesque villages in France.

Crozon peninsula has more spectacular cliff formations and the megalithic stone lines of Lagatjar to offer.

Lendevennec Abbey
The abbey was founded in the 5th century and the religious order survived until today despite many conflicts, wars and disputes over centuries. The old place of worship lies in ruins but a new abbey was built nearby in 1950.

In the Baie de Daoulas we found a quiet campground with beach access and called it a day.
