Our first stop was Crescent Beach, certainly a hidden gem, since the crowds are usually drawn to White Rock, where you have the thru-road and the promenade becoming your stage and opportunity to show off.
At Crescent Beach you end in a cul-de-sac, where parking is free, the beach accessible and almost empty, and restaurants reasonably priced.
Me in summer ATGATT
(armoured Kevlar jeans and Scorpion mesh jacket)
Fish and chips for the man, and salad for me
After recharging our batteries at Vita's Bar and Grill we headed East to visit a vineyard we heard off, that had won some awards. The River's Bend Winery provides a great selection of local grown (real) wines.
So we stopped by and were immediately greeted by the owner, who invited us in for a tasting. The white wine didn't impress us much, the Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon however was delicious.
Don't drink and drive!
The vineyard is young, and will certainly need a few more years to produce top notch wines, but they are on a good path, and we went away with a bottle of this fine award winning Merlot that we had a chance to taste.
It ain't pretty, but the RAM mounted on the mirror does the trick: Asking the GPS for direction.
Airplanes and bikes (o.k. scooters) - always a sexy combination
The museum was closed but this this pretty Lightning Hawk was accessible enough for a quick snapshot.
And while meandering through the farmland, we stopped here and there for a bit "barn porn".
A wonderful outing on a gorgeous day. Life is good!

Cab Sav Merlot - one of my favourites....yumm!
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with you about planes and bikes - lovely DC3.

@Geoff: Same here. I was inspired by one of your blog pics by some airport, alas we couldn't get closer...
ReplyDelete@Charlie6: It is, isn't it? But I can't take credit for is. I believe I stole the words from Troubadour.
Beautiful day and beautiful pictures Sonja.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Sonja! 'barn porn' too funny. Good for you for sticking with ATGATT. I was thinking today as I was getting geared up for a short run & it was hot and I was melting in my jacket, jeans & boots, how easy it would have been just to wear capris and sneaks. I just keep thinking nope not going to chance it, road rash is not worth the months of agony for five minutes of riding.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had an excellent summer day.
"mnjam" for wine and f&s :-)
ReplyDeleteBiki
How do you like the kevlar jeans? I've thought about getting some but have heard they're warmer than regular jeans and maybe even warmer than vented and/or mesh riding pants.
ReplyDeleteThe scene at the winery, with the wagon is lovely. Glorious blue skies over vineyards - very summery. I also love the last two shots with the barn - Nice!
Barn porn - Ha-Ha! :D
@Dar: It is tempting to go with less gear on a hot day, but I rather don't ride, than ride unsafe, too many bad experiences...
ReplyDelete@Biki: Thanks, Biki!
@bluecat: I like the Kevlar Jeans because they feel less sticky on your skin when sweating, actually they don't stick at all. They are of course heavier than normal jeans and mesh pants, but I find the mesh pants get more uncomfortable the longer the ride.
Glad you guys seem to have a hoot with the barn porn, it still makes my giggle, too.
