Got a Head for Heights?

The sun was out and so were we. Sunday noon was calling for another hike. Today's goal was all about finding a nice view above the tree line. We found just the spot when meandering along K5100 in direction to Freiamt-Tennenbach. A short and easy walk from the parking lot would take us to the Eichberg Tower.

The Eichberg Tower is the highest watch tower in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. It was built in order to celebrate the fifty years anniversary of the founding of the state back in 1952.

There are 240 steps to climb up the 43.2m high tower, and if that doesn't leave you gasping for air, the view from high above will take your breath away for sure.

We were glad for the fence around the tower. Sonja doesn't have a head for nights, and running up the the spiral staircase left her a bit dizzy.

A bit uneasy...
Braveheart!

The tower was definitely moving, which didn't help much either, but Sonja's acrophobia aside, it was well worth the climb.

What a view!

    1. Thanks, Dom. We were lucky, the weather played along nicely. The leaves will likely be gone after the next windstorm.

  2. An incredible view from the top of the tower! I'm not really crazy of heights by the climb would be worth it for the view.

    Then rappell down...

    1. Rappelling down? Yeah right... I needed to hold on to both rails to get down the staircase ;-) However, I always try to overcome my fear for certain heights.

  3. Wow, how cool is that tower? And the views, well worth the hike. I think I could walk up fine, but the walk down the stairs would be tougher especially if it was moving in the breeze. Good job Sonja on conquering it.

    1. It sure was quite the challenge, Brandy but I thought, if I can travel almost 7,000km solo through Eastern Canada on a bike, I should be able to manage my phobia.
