In the hood... Santa Cruz

This quarter had been assigned to the Jews in medieval times but after their expulsion at the end of the 15th century it went downhill until its conversion and renewal in the 18th century. Today it appears to be a more quiet neighbourhood with a maze of cobblestone alleys and beautifully colourful buildings.

We continue our stroll via Sevilla university towards Plaza de España, an architectural landmark once built for the 1929 world exhibition and combining various building styles of this region with elements from the Renaissance, Baroque and Moorish.

On arriving at the river it is high time again for another refresher! Near the tower of gold - Torre del Oro - a 12-sided polygon structure erected in the 13th century, we find a lovely bar overlooking the water.

  1. What a beautiful area! This Fall, we will be seeing just a small sampling of Spain. I think just a day or two in Barcelona. We will be in Italy before and after a cruise to ports in Italy and Greece. Our first European trip.

  2. Great pictures as always, SonjaM....I'm liking the technique of just shooting portions of a building, must try that.

Thanks Dom, shooting building parts became a necessity in order to avoid having people in your picture. Some humans are very particular about being photographed. Cheers, SonjaM

Für uns war es auch eine fremde Welt, in die wir kulturell eintauchen durften. Wir sind hier auch zum ersten Mal gewesen. LG SonjaM

Thank you Geoff, we were also impressed and intrigued by the Moorish building style, and the way it beautifully compliments other regional architectural styles. Cheers, SonjaM
