We took the ferry from Rödby in Denmark to Puttgarden which was a fairly expensive but with forty-five minutes the shortest way to get back to the German mainland.
Wir fuhren dann nach Rödby und nahmen die Fähre nach Puttgarden auf Fehmarn. Das war nicht billig, aber dafür mit 45 Minuten die schnellste Art, wieder Richtung Festland zu kommen.
We did not know much about the third biggest island of Germany except for the fact that it was here where the final concert of Jimi Hendrix took place almost exactly 46 years ago.
Über Fehmarn wussten wir nicht viel, außer, dass es drittgrößte Insel Deutschlands ist und ziemlich genau vor 46 Jahren Jimi Hendrix hier sein letztes Konzert gegeben hat.

The scenery wasn't much different from the Danish landscape, however the change in the atmosphere was palpable. At first we couldn't exactly put our finger on it but then we understood: We had left the happy zone. People around here seemed in a fairly bad mood, and although they obviously must have come here to spend their vacation on this island, folks seemed to be rather grumpy. Welcome back to Germany!
Irgendwie sah es landschaftlich immer noch aus, wie in Dänemark, aber wir bemerkten eine spürbare Veränderung. Anfangs konnten wir es nicht so genau sagen, was der Unterschied war, aber dann war uns klar: Wir hatten die Zone der Glücklichen verlassen. Die Menschen hier sahen mürrisch aus und strahlten eine Laune aus... und das, obwohl sie doch Ihre beste Zeit des Jahres hier verbringen konnten. Willkommen in Deutschland!
A strong Easterly almost blew us off the bikes but lesson learned, we pedalled as fast and as relaxed as we could. By the way actual push bikes seemed to be the minority here, most cyclists we encountered were elderlies on E-bikes.
After spending two days on a really well equipped campground at the beach we left for the long journey back south into the Black Forest, and arrived back home after ten hours of driving time. We had a great time, and we are for sure going to miss the ocean, the sea breeze and the surf, and most of all the Danish happiness.
Ein starker Ostwind fegte uns fast von den Fahrrädern, aber wir hatten ja in Dänemark gelernt, wie wir damit umgehen mussten und so traten wir langsam und entspannt in die Pedale. Richtige Bikes schienen hier übrigens zur Minderheit zu gehören, jedenfalls waren die meisten (älteren) Radfahrer mit E-Bikes unterwegs.
Nach zwei Tagen auf einem vorzüglich ausgestatteten Campingplatz machten wir uns nun endgültig auf den Weg zurück in den Süden und landeten nach zehn Fahrstunden wieder wohlbehalten im Schwarzwald. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit und vermissen bereits den Ozean, die Meeresluft, die Brandung und vor allem die glücklichen Dänen.
