Meanwhile Charlie6 a.k.a. Dom from redlegsrides and Chris from everydayriding have a blast with their winter escapades and spin said donuts on frozen lakes or even in front of the house with under age passengers on board. After enjoying their videos I did the next best thing and googled... THIS!
The Kendrick Family's BMW F650GS with Sputnik Sidecar as featured in the 2005 Issue of the BMW Owner's News Magazine! A Sputnik sidecar, and it comes in yellow! Ah, this would be the perfect winter ride. Alas this model doesn't seem no longer available. But wouldn't that be something? One can dream...

Mmmmmmmm.....donuts.......yum!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a nice setup. There was a recent audio podcast where they interviewed a crazy rider who rode across Canada in the middle of the winter on a BMW thumper with a sidecar. It was a great interview though some of the things he went through are proof that he's a crazy. Even folks on advrider.com thought he was crazy. His website.

Awesome! You have got to find one of those!
ReplyDeleteYellow too - Perfect!
That's REALLY nice Sonja! My neighbour across the road has an old BMW R100RS with a bullet-shaped sidecar that he takes the family poodle for a ride in! Must introduce you when you make it over here!!
ReplyDeleteWith a sidecar you could eat a donut while spinning a donut - best of both worlds...
ReplyDeleteSonja, ah yes, another step closer to the sidecar abyss....come closer it calls...donuts are a good thing it says...
ReplyDeleteJust make sure you get some formal training on riding one..... they're night and day when compared to riding a two-wheeled motorcycle.

That would be quite the rig - and yellow to boot. Nice.
ReplyDeleteBut now I need to go to Timmies.
@Raftnn: Roger, I guess snow donuts are not a thing you will ever see in Kiwi-Land, eh!?!
ReplyDelete@RichardM: Thanks for the link, he definitely is crazy, but obviously make a good living on it.
@bluekat: Kari, I will keep my eyes open for one of those.
@Geoff: No poodles in my rig, that’s for sure but maybe a stuffed bear? I would be happy to meet that guy eventually.
@Ken: Good idea, why haven’t I thought of that.
@Charlie6: I will make sure to book riding lessons for such a vehicle. I watched a few hack videos, and the movements are way different from ‘normal’ motorcycling.
@Canajun: Speakin’ of… gotta make a donut run for the guys (and get a Boston Cream for myself).
Oh yeah! That would be sweet! I am so jealous of your yellow GS! Two thumbs up! :-)
ReplyDelete@Allaina: Thanks for visiting. Yes, my yellow beemer is something. But your's isn't too bad either. Some yellow accessories here and there and you are good. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm being careful of the sidecar abyss, but it is soooo tempting . . . but, I have no room for it. Oh well, to dream.
ReplyDeleteGood to know I'm not the only one at least wondering what it would be like.

So cool! Or you could have a bolt on conversion kit to install a ski for the front wheel and a snow track for the rear! Then I don't think you would have to remain on the road. LOL.
ReplyDelete@Circle Blue: Hi Keith, I have never been closer
ReplyDelete@BeemerGirl: Hey Lori, I am not (yet) getting there. Actually I would prefer not to do anything that involves skiing in any way, shape or form.
Dear Sonja:
ReplyDeleteIf I had the cash, I think I'd be looking into one of Hannigan's "Tricars," but they only come in the Honda version. If the arthritis gets worse, I may have to condider a trike. (Same number of wheels as a hack rig.) There are 64 days until Spring.
Fondest regards,

@Jack Riepe: Dear Mr Riepe. Arthritis sucks, and there is not much you can do against it. I am convinced that the trike would become you well, and hope that the budget is there when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteHey Sonja...what about getting a nice Ural with sidecar as you winter vehicle. And keep Nella for the non-ice times of the year? :) LOL.
ReplyDelete-Lori
@BeemerGirl: Lori, I guess after the issues that Chris and Dom had lately I don't think so. Also I don't have any mechanical skills and no garage to work in anyway, so that's a definite no go. Well, Winter is almost over, so this project will be put on the back-burner for a while.
ReplyDeleteWow..this is truly a very nice shot and I love it in Yellow, your chopice of colors should temporarily please Canajun..be careful riding this thing around the corner...get some training if you can.
ReplyDeleteI remember your first post on your way home with Bob Skoot helping you with the ride. I never thought, at that time, you'd be getting a sidecar...but it is really nice.
If you ever get the chance to actually do the dounts and post a video, warn me ahead of time. I will want to get my sunglasses for the glare coming from your grin!
