This week found us traveling in different directions, hence we didn't get to spend a lot of quality time together. So, today we decided to postpone all weekend chores and went for a morning hike instead.
It was around 10 a.m. and we had the forest and the trails all to ourselves. In the valley it had drizzled ever so lightly at 6°C, but higher up we got light snow and freezing temperatures. The humid cold air made us move fast.
We never carry any water bottles along because there are plenty of artesian wells to quench one's thirst along the hiking trails.
We came across another fountain with engraved letters: Wasser ist Leben - Water is Life. All these wells are maintained by local organisations. Some of the fountains are centuries old, some only a few decades, and all look different in design.
It was an exhausting, yet nice and clean work-out after a work week spent in frowsty meeting rooms, cars and trains.
And the huffin' and puffin' aside, we felt really good about ourselves. Walking is good, hiking is better... well, we kinda like it.
You, be running up that hill
You and me, be running up that hill
You and me won't be unhappy.
Taken from the lyrics Running up that Hill by Kate Bush
Still fascinated by the artesian wells. That looks like a really steep hill...
