Wet? No sweat!

Overcast skies and muggy air. And yes, the weather app told us that the thunderstorm warning was still on. Not the best weather conditions to go out for a ride. We thought we would be going to give it a try anyway, and headed for the hills. It wasn't a steep incline per say but a continuous uphill battle nevertheless. Our legs managed just fine, however it was soon obvious that we wouldn't make it as far as we had planned. Because all of a sudden, and out of nowhere I became short of breath and fuzzy in the head. This hadn't happen in a long time, and after a quick self assessment I decided to call it quits for the day. This wasn't the moment to play heroine. After taking a quick break to recover, we leisurely rolled back down into the valley. Meanwhile it had started to rain. At first welcomed as a refresher, we soon began to protest against the more than massaging effect of the huge rain drops pounding against our bare skin. Oh well, maybe turning around wasn't such a bad idea after all. After a cuppa herbal tea and a long warm shower we watched the rain falling from the couch perspective, and all was right with the world again.

  1. Sonja, sounds to me like a very fair trade off re: your shortened ride. Trust that the light headed feeling was very temporary. Your immediate adjustment to plan was the right thing to do.

    1. I suspect the weather change was messing with me, the day after I felt just fine.

  2. Too bad your ride was spoiled by feeling unwell. I read that lightning has recently injured many in France & Germany and that a man was killed in Poland.

    1. Oh well, weather had been developing quite a temper in our neck of the woods, and yes, people were actually harmed by flooding and lightning. So returning to home base wasn't such a bad thing.

  3. A constant uphill grind takes its toll. It's always best to pay attention to our bodies. If looks are any indication, you are both fit as fiddles.

    1. David, we still have to work on our endurance, that's what the doctor prescribed. However, this has to wait another day.

  4. Good thing you listened to your body. It sounds like heading home was the right thing to do. And I bet the tea tasted really good after that ride.

    1. You bet, Brandy. And with a cuppa tea most things can be levelled.

    1. Thanks, Deb. I was alright after the weather changed. It must have been something in the muggy air.

  7. Those hills will do that to you. I'm glad you're feeling better, and it sounds like turning back was well timed with the weather change. Rain is best enjoyed from inside, after a warm shower.
