A Deluge

So far we got lucky with the weather but then we were hit hard. Would we ever make it off the campground? We couldn't even make out the main building where the washrooms were located. Would we sink into the soaked lawn and not be able to get out on our own? Would we end up spinning wheels and slinging mud? Hubby seemed to be musing about the same...

Was war denn das? Am nächsten Morgen wurden wir von sintflutartigen Regenfällen heimgesucht.  Wir konnten nicht mal erkennen, wo das Hauptgebäude, in dem sich die Waschräume befanden, lag. Würden wir es überhaupt vom Campingplatz herunter schaffen oder vorher im aufgeweichten Grund steckenbleiben? Ich sah uns schon im Schlamm versinken und mit durchdrehenden Reifen über den Rasen schlingern. Der Gatte hatte wohl ähnliche Gedanken... 

We stayed put until we noted a break in the weather, and hit the road without further ado in order to find a place dryer than this one. In central Europe this usually means going South. And this is how we ended up in Italy. Again. This time at beautiful Lago Maggiore.

Wir ließen es erst einmal ruhig angehen, doch als es für einen Moment aufhörte zu regnen, suchten wir ohne weitere Verzögerung das Weite, um einen trockeneren Ort als diesen zu finden. In Mitteleuropa heißt das: Ab nach Süden! Und so kam es, dass wir wieder in Italien landeten. Diesmal am schönen Lago Maggiore.

Da sind wir wieder: In Bella Italia!

Our app suggested a well rated campground near Cannobio. We checked in at noon and scored a lot directly at the lake shore. However, it took Roland all his manoeuvring skills to get the RV parked in this spot but he managed perfectly, and pointing out without any damage to the vehicle or surrounding vegetation. Our's is on the far left side.

Unsere App hatte uns einen gut bewerteten Campingplatz nahe Cannobio empfohlen. Wir kamen dort am Mittag an und konnten uns einen Platz direkt am See ergattern. Allerdings kostete es Roland all seine fahrerischen Fähigkeiten, um mit dem Riesenteil einzuparken. Er hat das aber ganz souverän und ohne Schaden an Fahrzeug oder Vegetation erledigt. The weather was still all doom and gloom, and - we had just unpacked our camping chairs and laid the table - a severe thunderstorm hit the area without warning, and put the campground temporarily under water. Needless to say that we tended to our slightly watered lunch inside the RV.

Das Wetter blieb trübe und als wir gerade all Tisch und Stühle aufgestellt und den Tisch zu Mittag gedeckt hatten, kam ohne Vorwarnung ein Gewitter mit Sturm und Hagel daher, der den ganzen Campingplatz mal eben unter Wasser setzte. Wir nahmen dann unseren leicht verwässerten Snack im WoMo ein...

No rented RVs were harmed in the process.

An hour later the storm had passed an gave way to fair weather. Time to explore our surroundings.

Eine Stunde später war's als wär' nix gewesen und die Sonne kam heraus. Also gingen wir auf Entdeckungstour.

And all is well with the world again.
