This charming former residential town with many Wilhelminian style buildings is probably best known as the birthplace of the German insurance industry. There's even a museum for it, no joke! A formerly popular people's party called the SocialPartyDeutschland (SPD) also had its birth in this place. Gotha was also considered the center of the German news publishing industry. Generally not very exciting, but certainly significant, formative and quintessentially German topics.
We enjoy walking along the water art up to Friedensstein Castle and take a hike through the oldest English garden in continental Europe.
