The heart of Herrstein is its well-preserved medieval town center. The town's narrow, cobblestone streets and historic buildings give visitors a sense of stepping back in time. Many of the houses in the town center date back to the 16th and 17th century, with their timber-framed construction typical of the region. One of the most significant historical landmarks in Herrstein is Herrstein Castle, a medieval castle dating back to the 13th century. Although the castle has undergone various modifications and reconstructions over the years, it still retains its historical character and remains a focal point for visitors interested in local history.
Hildegard was born the 10th child of a nobel family in the tiny village Niederhosenbach and given to the church at the age of eight in order to become a nun. She had been a sickly child and prone to headaches.

The Trübenbach gorge with its picturesque trail and waterfalls was a lovely break from the historic places I visited today.

Das war wirklich ein wunderschöner Herbsttag. Leider sind diese im Moment sehr selten. Das Grau in Grau zieht einen ziemlich herunter, dazu noch die kurzen Tage... wenigstens ist das Laub bunt... LG SonjaM
