Moto Photo - #16 of 29

#16 - P L P (Parking Lot Practice)
Waiting for my turn.

I have been told a few times that the Hi-Viz jacket and the bubble helmet don't go too well with a 'brand like this'. It makes me look geeky. Well, I like to think that it makes me ride safer, and I am not using the bike to make a fashion statement anyway.

Now, I begin to wonder if I honor the marque enough that I am riding. Maybe I should join a club, buy a cut, and get a skull tattoo on my... hmmm. Ah, forget it. The Sporty hasn't complained yet.

  1. And if it makes you look geeky, so what? ;-)

It's all about riding as safe as possible and if HiViz gear does this, it's great. No matter what bike you're on! The Sporty will rather complain if you don't ride it anymore, not if you're wearing geeky clothes.

    1. The fashion discussion never came up with my previous bikes... must be a HD specific thing.

  2. Definitely the tattoo......

  3. Great picture.

I think more and more people are starting to wear more gear when riding HD. I think younger riders riding and people that don't belong to clubs are buying the brand so the tide is shifting somewhat.

Good on you for keeping on all the gear and thinking outside the box (I mean brand).

    1. I guess I change my bikes more often than my gear ;-), so buying brand stuff every time I ride another one would be excessive...

      Hi Viz rules!

  4. SonjaM:

I won't buy Marque branded clothes either. Even buying colour co-ordinated stuff isn't necessarily a good idea as it may clash with your next bike.

not too sure about joining a club again, too many expectations . . . but I miss having company somewhere along the way

    1. So true, Bob. I am on the fence with being a menber of the club. I like the occasional company but there are certain things that I don't like about clubs as you say, expecations that are sometimes hard to fulfil (like showing up EVERY meeting...)
Also, not many are up for rides further than the next greesy spoon facility.

  5. Sonja - I was admiring your jacket and I like your helmet. In fact when I was purchasing gear I was looking for a jacket that was hi-viz, but of course they don't carry the women's one in the motorcycle store and I would have to have ordered it and it could have taken up to 3 months. I needed the jacket right away, so now when I ride at night I wear a hi-viz yellow traffic vest. Anyone who doesn't wear gear is a temporary citizen in my book and they won't think they are cool when they have slid down the pavement and have no hide left because of the road rash. I think it all looks great! You could get a tat or your nose pierced.....

    1. Thanks Dar, I was lucky with my jacket. My hubby spotted it on sale at Pacific Yamaha/BMW. Before I had a grey jacket and a hi-viz vest like you are wearing.
I guess I pass on the tatoo though, and I like my nose the way it looks ;-)

  6. im surprised, most HD folks (well real riders/bikers anyway) would be the LAST to judge or talk about how anyone else is dressed. i suspect you are running into rubs (rich urban bikers) who have new crispy leathers and bright yellow/purple roadkings who go oops and fall down, alot, arghghghghghgh...

tell anyone who remarks on your gear to go F' themselves or buy gear for you! >;-)

    1. Hmm, rubs. This description fits like a glove, as they were perfectly dressed in HD merchandise down to their poodle and rode big bikes they could barely handle. I am more into the F" themselves category...

  7. "I am more into the F" themselves category..."

Mark me down for that one, too.

You could throw them off by sewing a skull/dagger/flames patch on your hi-viz jacket. :')

We wanna be free! ...to all wear the same thing. :oD

  8. Put me down in the "F" themselves category too. Gave up caring about such things long ago.

...on the other hand a tat could be cool! ;)

  9. Put me in the "F" category too. If they are buying gear to match their bike just for the purpose of image & thinking they are cool, they have a lot to learn about motorcycling. (so says the newb)

  10. Ah, rubs. We got lots of those around here. Add me to the F list.
