Contrary to my recent trip along Schwarzwald-Hochstraße, I opted for small the byways and single track roads, and got a bunch of twisties, as well as some really bad surface. Every so often potholes, or badly re-surfaced ones with leftover gravel caused my scoot to do a little dance. I was glad for the grip of the new tires which were by now well broken in. But it was not the first time I wished for better shocks, like the ones I had installed on my Sportster. However, my Vespa was getting better at dancing with ever other turn.

| Castle Hochburg |
There weren't many visitors around at this time of the day, and I had the ruins and stunning vistas almost to myself. Of course the castle hadn't been built to enjoy the panoramic views. Sitting on the edge of a hilltop it is overlooking the whole valley to the mountains at the horizon, and is indeed a showcase for half a millennium of military architecture. Having said that, it all the smart architecture didn't prevent the fortress from getting conquered and half destroyed during several wars, leaving it in ruins, purposeless until a foundation restored the leftovers.
It was early afternoon, and traffic meanwhile had picked up. However, I encountered a lot of unusual courtesy from blue haired cagers today, who made way to let me and my little scoot overtake.
Back home I rewarded myself for this gorgeous outing with a bowl (make that two) of Chilli sin Carne, and lucky me, I have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch as well.

It would have been the most perfect of days with the addition of garlic bread!
ReplyDeleteNick, believe me there was tons of garlic in the Chilli. No need for bread.
DeleteThanks once again Sonja for sharing your fantastic ride and vistas!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it, Coop.
DeleteA peanut butter sandwich, hot beverage in a thermos and a castle ... does life get any better?
ReplyDeleteNope, Karen. Sometimes that enough for happiness.
DeleteTwo wheels and a picnic lunch, perfect even with the chilly morning.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful castle and valley pics too.
Thanks, Brandy. I was solo, so it was close to perfect. It would have been perfect with my better half ;-)
DeleteI WILL do this with you - my favorite plan for 2015. I have a dream ... Two days for arrival, 5 days drivin' there with you - two days departure, maybe some kilometers with you at my side... what do you think about that?
ReplyDeleteHeike, I will definitely make some time to show you my favourite roads.
DeleteChilly morning, chili later, ride in between, the perfect sandwich day :)
ReplyDeleteThat would have made a bread blog title, too.
DeleteOh, it's such a long time that i was in the black forrest for the last time. Something about a fifteen years... When i look at the beautyful pictures you took, i see i have to learn a lot about a more touristy way of riding.
ReplyDeleteHello D'eau Venus, and thanks for visiting. The Black Forest is first rate motorcycle territory, for riding AND for sight seeing. I for myself can't do one without the other.
DeleteOh to be in Europe.....nice pics!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous Sonja, maybe Mainland Europe should be on our bucket list too. We are currently in the Banff National Park at Lake Louise, another of your old haunts :-) .

Beautiful! I love your scoot, the orange is simply stunning in the field of wild flowers. You are so lucky to live in such beautiful country. Again I sigh for all of the great places you ride to, such a treat to see the pictures!
