The Way

Others walk El Camino de Santiago. I am going to ride through North America instead, one road at a time. This shall be part one of my pilgrimage.

WHEN: Mid September to End October 2015
HOW:   on BB (short for: Black Betty) - the co-owned 2003 HONDA Shadow 750 A.C.E.

Where am I headed?

WHAT and WHERE:
  • Re-visit the beautiful city of Montreal, QC
  • Go for a ride with fellow blogger and Betty's co-proprietor David
  • Kayak the lakes in Algonquin Provincial Park, QC
  • Listen to the roar of the Niagara Falls, ON
  • Meet Stephen King in Derry a.k.a. Bangor, Maine
  • Relax in Lunenburg, NS
  • Ride the Cabot Trail, NS
  • Get red sand in my boots on Prince Edward Island
  • Gasp at the sights on Gaspé Peninsula, QC

6000km - Eastern Canada: The Maritimes
Not sure if it all can be done in one trip because it would be 6,000km (3.730 mls) of ground to cover but I'm in no rush. First and foremost I would be happy to re-connect with friends, meet bloggers along the way, couch surf where possible to keep cost low, and have a good time.

Mac the Moose, SK

Nothing is set in stone yet, and I am open to suggestions. I am a devotee of weird road side attractions such as the world's largest lobster in Shediac, NB. So if you know of such along the way, by all means let me know, and I put it on my list of must-see things.

WAS und WO?
  • Stephen King in Derry (Bangor), Maine treffen
  • in Lunenburg entspannen
Wenn Ihr also Vorschläge habt, immer her damit.

    1. Yes, Dom. I will keep planning low profile, and sometimes just meander along to see where the road might take me.

  2. Entirely doabale ...maybe! St Pierre and Miquelon, no vehicle ferries but it's French so they have to be ornery. Only guillotine execution in North America. I want to visit the maritimes so I have done my research.

    1. Michael, you are a fan of gruesome details, I like that!

  3. I've never been to that part of North America but have always wanted to so it is on the proverbial "list". September and October seems pretty late in the year.

    1. RIchard, it's not that I have much of a choice. My contract expires in September only, until then I earn some more pocket money for the trip. And I get to see the fall foliage.

  4. That sounds terrific. While not all weird, here are some suggestions that look as if they might be on or near your route.... Upstate New York – go to Alexandria Bay and get the paddle-steamer boat out to see Boldt Castle, ride through Adirondacks National Park (stunning), go to the top of the ski-jump at Lake Placid, ride up Whiteface Mountain, visit Ausable Chasm (must).

In Vermont – ride up the road to the top of Okemo Mountain ski resort.

On the Maine coast – Go to see the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, where you can ride and elevator and go to the top of one of the towers to look at the view, visit Owls Head Transport Museum, ride through Arcadia National Park, climb the narrow steps of the lighthouse at Permaquid Point.

Have you seen the movie called "The Way" about a pilgrimage on the El Camino? It was pretty good. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441912/
