You have probably heard in the news about the terrible attack committed on a Berlin Christmas market. No words can express our feelings about this. While our thoughts are with the families and friends of the people affected by this tragedy we contemplated about the proper way to respond to such an unspeakable act of madness. So, although no big fans of the seasonal events happening this time of the year, we visited a Christmas market in order to show that our faith in mankind is still going strong.

2016 was a shitty year, so let's make 2017 a better one.
Ihr habt ja alle die schreckliche Attacke auf dem Berliner Weihnachtsmarkt mitbekommen. Wir finden keine Worte. Während unsere Gedanken bei den Familien und Freunden der von dem Unglück betroffenen Menschen weilen, wollten wir gleichzeitig ein Zeichen setzen und auf unsere Weise auf diesen Wahnsinn reagieren. Obwohl wir keine großen Anhänger von all-weihnachtlichen Ritualen sind, besuchten wir den lokalen Weihnachtsmarkt, um zu zeigen, dass wir immer noch großes Vertrauen in die Menschen haben.

Deletewe were shocked when we came home from a day trip to the RMNP :-(. First I read on facebook only statements of friends that they are safe. Then we discovered what happened. Berlin is my hometown, and Berliner will stay strong!

DeleteWell said, and well done Sonja. Every time we change our behaviour as a result of one of these cowardly acts we lose a little more of our freedom. We need to all stand up and not be cowed.
ReplyDeleteDavid, we are not planning on losing our freedom to fear! Though politicians and demagogues want to try and push people in this exact direction. There was already a outcry for even more thorough controls, more surveillance, more police etc. but all this will never prevent acts of crime and terror.

DeleteSome thoughts need to made to the family of the truck driver, brutally beaten, stabbed and shot so that the terrorist could take his truck. The first casualty and the first suspect.

DeleteI agree with the above comments and what you did...the best way to fight terror is to not give into it. Eat, drink, be merry...celebrate with friends and family. I remember after the London bombings a simple statement united a country. "I am not afraid."
