Southern Bavaria, or better the Isar river region belongs to the most beautiful parts of Germany, especially if you like Canada-look-alike wilderness. A stretch of (toll) road near Wallgau follows the river downstream and offers spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountains. Several times we said to each other in awe: It's like being in the Rockies, isn't it?
We followed the Isar further downstream to the Sylvenstein reservoir, then made a right turn and were soon back in Austria.
At a small lake called Reintalersee we found a lovely campground Camping Seeblick Toni. It was still enough light left in the day to go exploring. After setting up camp we took a stroll around the lake in order to work up some appetite for dinner. The campground had an excellent restaurant with regional Austrian cuisine (veal Schnitzel anyone?) on site.
Life is good! Das Leben ist schön!

Ya know, those pics do portray scenery that is similar to the Rocky Mountains region!
ReplyDeleteHad Jaeger Schnitzel for lunch today, not quite the delicious dish one obtains in Germany!
Dom, the best Schnitzel imho can be obtained in Austria, they are the true masters.
DeleteWonderful mountain photos! It does remind me a lot of the Canadian Rockies. But it does look cold. Below freezing?
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it, Richard? Temperatures were well above freezing temps, probably around 10°C (50F), with a significantly drop at night.
DeleteVery scenic region, I am enjoying your photos.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like my snapshots. Thanks.
