LINK
But no worries: convenience goods are constantly being restocked:
Aber keine Sorge: Es gibt derzeit wirklich keine Lebensmittelengpässe:
Meanwhile different countries have taken a different approach to panic-buying:
Italians have stocked up on espresso and grappa, the French on cheese and wine, the Dutch on weed and smokes, the Brits on mint sauce and tea. The Russians got their Vodka, the Scots their whiskey and the Americans hauled in ammunition. And what did we Germans roll in? Flour and toilet paper. So embarrassing.
Irgendwie peinlich.

In my local Lidl this afternoon the shelves were empty of crisps (potato chips) but fresh fruit and vegetables were plentiful. Trust the Scots to avoid anything healthy.
ReplyDeleteAnd there I thought you'd turn to liquids of sorts, Stuart.
DeleteBeautiful flowers. Hiking is still a great activity when trying to isolate yourself from others.
ReplyDeleteTotally, Richard. As long as you are not confined to quarters, it's the only option in order to get your head cleared up.
Idiot Australian also stocked up on toilet paper and pasta, rice and oil? WTF
ReplyDeleteThey should have been making a beeline for the local liquor stores....
Liquor might be the better idea in terms of future currency... in exchange for toilet paper?
DeleteIn NZ, there doesn't seem to have been much panic buying and with only 12 cases of the virus, tourists who arrived before the tough entry rules seem happy to stay here! Not sure whether any airlines will be flying at the time Jennie is supposed to return from the UK but we'll worry about that later. We'll use her self-isolation period to go fishing together!
ReplyDeleteTake care...
NZ is in a favourable position right now, Geoff. I hope you guys can keep it almost clear of the virus. Your home for sure isn't the worst place to be quarantined. Hope Jennie gets her flight and get out of there. Keep well!
DeleteGermans weren't the only ones buying up and hoarding TP, SonjaM, here in America we've got those idiots too.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we have TP we are human, that's what's distinguishes us from animals, right? Let's hope that people don't turn to guns in a desperate move to obtain it...
DeleteSo as to ease your embarrassment Sonja, Australians have been fighting over toilet paper and pasta in the supermarket aisles.....
DeleteStay safe. We will be through this and laughing about it soon. I hope! ;)
Well, people haven't been fighting here (yet) but there had been some discussions leading into (verbal) quarrels... I sure hope that will be something we may laugh about in a few weeks.
DeletePeople are hoarding TP here too. And cleaning supplies. The scary part is hospitals are running low on protective gear. The US seems I’ll prepared for this pandemic.
ReplyDeleteFortunately hiking and biking away from other people is still ok.
Situation about hospital supplies is on edge here too, and even worse in Italy as people start stealing it. But our government seem to have found new sources. And China is on the mend and back in production. Let's hope all will be well.
