Just another day

I have made it a habit riding 'naked' lately, meaning without the Pelican cases. It is amazing how nimble Nella feels and how easy she is to manage on gravel, yet the top case still carries my toolbox, rain gear, and some simple bare necessities (a disk lock, a water bottle, a second pair of gloves, a pair of glasses, and my yellow crocs).
A month has gone by and the sales guy from Cycle Barn never called back. So I gave up on waiting for the Olympia jacket and procured a Scorpion Exo Nip/Tuck mesh jacket instead. Since yellow wasn't an option, it had to be black. Although armored in all the right places the jacket is only half the weight of my Firstgear Kilimanjaro. A windbreaker in-liner protects in cooler weather, and served me well during today's evening ride. The jacket runs a little small, so I had to go one size up, but thanks to the adjustable cords I could customize it to fit my 'form'. So far it's a great jacket, and very reasonable priced.
Adopting Gary France's habit to take a picture on the road every 1,000 traveled units (and since I am metric it will be every 1,000 km) I am celebrating 4,000 km with Nella on Dewdney Trunk Road, Pitt Meadows, BC.

  1. It's interesting how the bike transforms when you take the training wheels ... I mean the side bags off. When we were camping three weeks ago I had the big side cases on the F and it felt like an oil tanker during the first hour. They make quite a difference even with light luggage, we didn't have all too much heavy stuff in them.

Probably the same with your pelican cases, they act like a balancing pole as they stick out quite a bit and have about 5kg or so weight each. You can definitely feel that.

  2. Lovely evening for your ride. Nice practice to make those periodic incremental progress pics. Glad you found a new jacket, but sorry to hear it isn't the yellow you really wanted.

  3. Does your shopping list look like this?

    Custard
    Bananas
    Sweet Corn
    Peppers (yellow of course)
    Pineapple
    Smiley T Shirt
    etc

  4. @Guido: Training wheels is a good analogy ;-)
@Chuck: Oh well, can't have it all. I am happy with the Scorpion jacket though, and it came much cheaper, too.
@Gary: Frankly, I also buy orange stuff on occasion (which is my most favorite color), things like Thousand Island Dressing, oranges, peppers (orange of course), grapefruit (they call them pink, but they are actually orange)... ;-)

  5. Glad you found a new jacket Sonja. I think you will be very happy with it.

I love my Scorpion Nip Tuck. I got it in the Spring pattern to match my helmet. Waited 3 months for it to arrive last summer from back order and didn't get to use it last year. It has been my go to jacket this year even in cooler weather. Enjoy and happy riding.
