Random ramblings

Getting all the wrong ideas for the right reasons. Or the other way round? Whatever... Don't mind the guys, of course I am talking about the new Triumph 800 / 800 XC. Any similarity with the BMW F650 is of course purely coincidental and unintended. But since I have a weak spot for the Triumph family I have to say I really, REALLY like it.

The weather at the We(s)t Coast is indeed WET. Big letters. Note to self: Need to buy rain coat (my winter coat is good in cold but fails under wet conditions).

Bad weather is good for making plans, to be more precise: travel plans.
Germany - visiting family is always great, you instantly recall why you left (Mom, JUST KIDDING!!!)
New Zealand - the annual pilgrimage to headquarters - strictly business of course (PAAARTY!)
Maui - A week of sand and surf, cocktails and handsome... hubby. (YES!)

It is great to have something to look forward to. Life is good!

  5. As you know I have put a deposit on a new Yamaha at a dealer that sells Yamaha and Triumph. I did it before the Triumph was announced but kept my options open. I love the 800XC, a true adventure bike, it's beautiful. I'm going to wait on a decision until it comes out to see it person (maybe at the NY bike show in January) The only reason I'm still leaning on the Yamaha Tenere is the size of the engine but I've heard rumors that Triumph is also going to make a bigger engine for this bike.

  7. Dear Sonja:

I have been to Germany many times (12 to be exact) and I have developed a deep appreciation for Kempinski Hotels and Lufthansa's Senator Class Service. Have a great trip. I hope your bike is ready when you return.

  8. Okay - so....? Are you just trying to be cruel flaunting your fabulous travel plans? Can you say JEALOUS?!?! I know I can!

Each one of your upcoming destinations sounds lust-worthy.

"visiting family is always great, you instantly recall why you left"

I actually laughed out loud, for real! ;o)

  9. @Nikos: BMW is my choice of technology, Triumph is my choice of heart
@GeorgeF: I had a soft spot for the old Tenere, but the seat hight never worked out for me. Power is not an issue 600 to 800cc are good enough for me.
@Beemergirl: Lori, I even chose a profession that would give me the opportunity to travel, because I like getting around.
@Mr R: Jack, Kempinski is a classic, although a prefer the Capella hotels. But there is no place like staying at an inviting home, surrounded by family, and being close to Mom's cooking.
@fuzzygalore: Rachael or better Fuzzy ;-) it's just a little teaser. I did't get out much this year on business or pleasure, only to Kiwi-Land, Ontario, Albera, BC, California, Washington & Oregon. So you understand that a little more travel might be in order ;-)

  10. I hope that your latest NZ trip doesn't get cancelled again Sonja! Got any provisional dates? We're off to Vietnam and Cambodia in early April.

Oh, and BeemerGirl is clearly a wise and perceptive person :-)

  11. Exciting travel coming up! (I love to travel just about anywhere) The Triumph looks pretty good though I really like the parts availability of the Beemers (I guess this statement doesn't seem to apply to the F650GS model). But I really would like to see one not that I'm really shopping for another bike....

  12. SonjaM:

It's always nice to "anticipate", something to look forward to. You will enjoy Hawai'i, we went last January. It should be better for you this year as it is forecast to be a colder winter. There's nothing like wandering around in shorts and sandals when you look at the weather report that it is snowing back home.

  14. @Geoff: I have made the experience that nothing is concrete until I get on the plane. Last time the trip was cancelled 2 days before... Talk is about February
@Richard: Same here, it is always good to go places. Also, I am not planning on getting rid of the F650 just yet. Just looking...
@bobskoot: Bob, besides 'walking' there will hopefully be swimming and surfing and relaxing
@Canajun: I can tell, those roads... AWESOME!

  15. I agree on the Trumpet! It sounds to be peppy and capable on the adventure roads! Good luck on your travels.

  16. A couple steeds to choose from in the stable is always nice. No need to get rid of the F650, just give you more riding options. I'll root for you that the trips aren't canceled. I need some pictures! LOL.

    Thank You Geoff! :-)

  17. Love the new Triumph.
Travel plans and ogling pretty bikes. Sounds like the perfect way to spend a rainy day. The travel plans sound spectacular. Of course there must be lots of pics for us stuck back here in the cold and rain! :)
