It was hot during the week, 35+ C (up to 100F), and actually too hot to be riding comfortably in full gear, but Saturday it was perfect, so we met with friends for a scooter ride through the cool shades of the Black Forest, and the vineyards of the Rhine Plains.
At Riegel (formerly Rigola, an old Roman settlement) a piece of curious architecture caught our attention. Previously a brewhouse this building had been converted into a museum.
The foundation hosts a variety of exhibitions, and currently they had artwork from Hundertwasser on display. Friedensreich Hundertwasser was an eccentric Austrian post war artist, and renown for his colourful paintings, and his bold architectural projects such as the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna, Austria or the public toilet of Kawakawa, New Zealand), in which he defied using straight lines. He preferred the geometry of curves and spirals, as he found these shapes more natural.
Speaking of... so inspired we went on a quest of curves and spirals in the hills of Kaiserstuhl, where we got to play in the vineyards.

Pretty day for a ride. Some of the pics remind me of Oregon, just a little bit. The clouds in the sky and the green hills. But the architecture is definitely not from around these parts. :)
ReplyDeleteKari, I tend to think it looks a bit like the Okanagan, just which too many people ;-)
DeleteToo hot!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture and I like the colors of the building in the third photo.
Too hot... says the Alaskan. It wasn't too bad actually, humidity levels were bearable.
DeleteWe are fans of Hundertwasser and indeed much of our diy resembles his style...
ReplyDeletenow I understand ;-)
DeleteWas ihr unterwegs immer alles so findet. Sehr schön :-)
ReplyDeleteAugen auf und braunen Hinweisschildern folgen...
DeleteWow, you've been getting some warm temps. Definitely too hot to ride when it is over 30˚.
ReplyDeleteI am liking the new blog header pic.
We had been riding in 42C in the interior Oregon, remember? That was hot!
DeleteSonja:
ReplyDeleteThe landscape sort of resembles our Okanagan where there are mainly "not" straight roads which wind through the vineyards. I liked that statue. I can't help but to keep staring at it

Riding the Wet Coast
Exactly my thinking, Bob.
DeleteSonja I think I missed something. Did Roland paint his Vespa, or has he indulged in a new ride?
ReplyDeleteRoland is still underway on Bella. The other bike you might be spotting is a friend's Burgmann 650.
