It was cold until it wasn't...

Last Saturday morning I saddled my Sporty to test out my new heated vest as well as the new cigarette lighter socket. Yep, both worked perfectly! At 2°C (35°F) it was quite nippy, but when I turned on the heat it was like being cuddled in a blanket (thanks, Brandy for the analogy). The warmth immediately spread out evenly around the upper torso and the neck. Why the heck didn't I think of this sooner... However, after a two hours ride in the cold I was glad to be back home.

Given the bargain price of 99€ I'd say the KLAN vest comes along as a pretty sweet deal. Lightweight, durable material, with an accessory pocket in the back. Note for ladies with Rubeneque features (like myself): Don't be shy ordering XL or even XXL. It's an Italian product, hence sizes come along rather smallish. I wear EU44 and XL provides a rather snug fit over a sweat shirt.

  1. ChrisL talked me into heated gear using a similar analogy. Putting on a sweatshirt right out of the dryer.

  2. Yeah, a sweat shirt or a blanket right out of the dryer. And heated grips like wrapping your hands around a hot cup of coffee. All good things for cold weather rides.

    1. I have to admit, Kari that the heated grips will likely be installed during next winter break.

  3. Well one more endorsement for heated gear.....I best get on the stick and get with this cold riding program. Who doesn't like "shirt out of the dryer" comfort?? Thanks for one more nudge Sonja!

  4. Yep, it is just like having a heated blanket wrapped around you when riding. Not that you need one, but it sure is nice to take that chill off.

I am glad you finally bought one. We've even used ours on really chilly mornings in early summer.

    1. Good point, Brandy. I surely will bring it along when on day rides. Also in the mountains it can get quite chilly even in summer.

  6. Riding in 2 degrees C !!! It doesn't get that cold down here in the southern hemisphere, at least not where I live. I would imagine you would need that, as well as heated grips. Nice looking bike, I assume you are going to re-spray? Interesting reading through your blog.

    1. You live in a mighty blessed place down there. But given that there are some very dedicated in-the-snow riders out there, I am just a bloody amateur.
      Thanks for visiting!

  8. Heated gear is the way to go. I hate being cold on the bike because it truly is bone chilling and I always find it hard to warm up. Thankfully we have had a good winter this year and only about 3 weeks of real cold here and there. Not sure I really like this very warm spring, may not bode well for a good summer. Next year I think I am going to invest in some heated gear. Glad you were toasty!

    1. Dar, I am now asking myself why it took me so long to decide to buy. You are a year rounder... go for it!

  9. Jetzt müsste die Heizweste nur noch signalfarbend sein :-)

  10. Sonja - isn't it nice to be able to turn on the heat! The only two mods I made on the VStar were heated grips and a 12 volt plug for the heated gear (and the electronics when the temperatures is fine!) - somewhat like the 4 wheels, only two requirements: heated seats and AWD. Glad you've got out for a ride, it's still a bit away for me.

    1. Karen, you were smarter than me ;-) I look at the weather forecast in your area, and it doesn't show much of spring... hope it's getting better soon.
