Can Women get the Midlife Crisis...?

There have been cases of women getting the man flu, so chances are that some of the female kind might also be susceptible to the midlife crisis. But worry not! I am far from craving a sports car, I am happily married (almost 16 years and counting), I oddly enough still like my profession even after all those years, and I already ride that Harley.

However, with my contract expiring in September I am looking for anything else but a new assignment. Maybe I am going to take a sabbatical. It's not that I have done such before (eight years in Canada don't count, or do they?), and this pipe dream of mine is spinning round and round in my head.

  1. Sonja you know as well as I, women can do anything, even have a midlife crisis if they want. Sounds to me like you'll be looking for a parking space somewhere in NA - might I suggest somewhere that isn't buried under 4 feet of snow for 4 months ;0)

    1. Karen, actually I am perfectly content but in the mood to try something I haven't done before... since I won't be riding all year round, the bike being buried under snow (or actually the garage) during winter is alright with me :-)

  2. I think it's fair to say that human beings have midlife crises. Is the US West dream so close you can almost touch it? We will be here when you get here. :^)

    1. Martha, going west is always in my mind, and going back and going across. From the Canadian to the Mexican border... let's see where my part-time adventure will lead me.

  3. I think your plan sounds like an incredible idea and worth following through with if at all possible. Others have done trips with 'parked' machines and it all seems so practical, as practical as that far from home travel can be accomplished. If you can make it happen you should.

    1. Coop, I am thinking round-trips, as there will be another player in the game but who knows what we will come up with.

  4. I don't call it a crisis. Call it feeding the inner child. :)

    2. I'm with bluekat on this... Re-label it. It is in our human nature to be curious, to discover. Don't defy that.

  6. Visiting my continent and exploring it on a motorcycle is lots of fun. You'd never regret a trip like this. There's plenty to see and nice people to meet.

    1. Ally, I also believe that exploring North America on a bike is the best way to travel. And it opens up so many opportunities of seeing things, and meeting people.

Also, worauf wartest du ...

  9. A sabbatical...I like that idea.....perhaps a pan-european road trip?

    1. Oh yes, Dom. That too. Actually I'd like to go on a trip around the Baltic Sea...

    2. That would be very cool! I hear the Norwegian Fjords are quite spectacular in terms of scenery. My Father-in-Law visits there regularly as he's of Norwegian ancestry....hangs out with a buddy in the northern portion of Norway I believe.

    3. Norway is a beautiful country, Dom. With its Fjords very similar to the Canadian We(s)t Coast. Definitely motorcycle territory.

  10. Who let you out of the kitchen? With shoes on none the less! Next you will be wanting the right to vote! ((goes and crawls back under his rock somewhere in the middle ages)).

    1. Ha! Robert, actually not only with shoes but motorcycle boots (which are also good for kicking butts...). Afraid of women power? Good! Have fun under that rock of yours ;-)

  12. There's no such thing as a midlife crisis.

That term was invented by younger adults who had become stuck in their well worn ruts and unable to understand how some older more more secure, more mature individuals were able to break free, challenge convention, and truly enjoy the remainder of their lives.

Calling it a crisis makes the rutters feel better.

    1. David, you are able to make it sound quite poetic. Breaking free... that's what it all is about.

  13. I always thought a women's mid-life crisis involved a boob job, wearing non age-apropriate clothing, and dying your hair blonde. Doesn't sound like any of those have got you yet.

The pipe-dream sounds awesome if you can make it a reality.

    1. Brandy, you just made my day. Phew! Thank the Powers-that-be! What I have is clearly NOT the midlife crisis, because these things never sprung to mind.

  14. Shows what classy guys hang around here. Most anywhere else on the 'net, Brandy's comment would have generated 100 others, each less appropriate than the next.

Thanks heavens I chose the poetic high road.
