We must be cursed. Right on cue for the weekend the weather turned bad again with multiple warnings for heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms in the forecast. Our Saturday trip into the southwestern vineyards as well as a test ride on a the Triumph Street Twin fell through, and the day ended a bit on an unsatisfied note.
Sunday morning didn't have any improvement in store. We dressed up for a bicycle ride, only to be stopped by a downpour while on our way to the bike shed. And so the morning went by watching the weather change every ten minutes. Late afternoon we finally got a dry spell for about an hour or so, and took advantage.
The forrest trails were wet and muddy so we stayed on paved tracks most of the time. After having been confined to indoors it felt good to be outside, and take in some of the typical clean fresh air that comes after the rain.
Kinzig river - high water.
Kinzig Hochwasser.

Kinzig Hochwasser.
Needless to say that we still got wet and dirty, but we were home again before the next downpour. So far this summer sucks!

Hrmpf!
DeleteCome join us in Greece, forecast 38C next weekend!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun, Nick. I wish I could...
Bad weather but good photos. Do you use a High Dynamic Range technique? I ask because the photos (2nd especially) have dramatic skies but the landscape is also well exposed.
ReplyDeleteSpot on, Stuart. I like the HDR feature much, and it does show, eh?
DeleteGreat photos even with the bad weather.
ReplyDeleteIn Oregon we have a standard joke: What follows two days of rain in Oregon? Monday.
Likes to rain on our days off and get sunny for the work week, sigh.
I am excited to hear your review on the Street Twin. I sat on one a few weeks ago and was intrigued. A little different than the Bonneville in seating position.
Brandy, the same saying goes for our neck of the woods, at least this year it feels like it. As for the Street Twin, I also had a sit-on before, and like to know how it handles.
DeleteIhr tut mir alle so schrecklich leid da unten!
DeleteTo echo Trobairitz (and I love that standard Oregon joke)...
ReplyDeleteI swear, Sonja, often it seems like the weather gods are just being spiteful--like those spells when weekdays are gorgeous and then all goes to hell in a handbasket on the weekends.
For us, leading up to Memorial Day weekend (at the end of May), five or six of the preceding eight were just like that: beautiful weather during the slave-the-day-away work weeks followed by washout weekends.
Don't those gray skies know that a Rover's gotta rove?!...
Ry, I plan on getting a job where one only has to work on weekends, and enjoys the marvellous weather during weekdays... if only.
DeleteYour weather is like Canada, perfect during the week and crap on the weekends. Oh well, when it comes to the weather we can only make the best of it, and it sure looks like you did! Luv your pics. LOL you might have something with that, work weekends only LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you, FC. I should have gotten used to it while in Canada, alas I didn't.
DeleteI am very impressed. You must be related to Elon Musk, the alien. Imagine that, I take my eyes off Thunderbird for a few days and it shows up in the Black Forest in a meadow with all your other bikes.
ReplyDeleteOne day you have to tell me how you did that.
David, just wait 'til Sonja replicates herself to ride all two-wheelers simultaneously. That'd be totally multiverse, but I've no doubt she's capable of it. :D
DeleteDavid, it's a technology from Star Trek Universe... called beam my up, Scotty. Or in this case beam me across the ocean ;-)
DeleteRy, if I could only replicate I would put my carbon copy to work, and go for a ride myself.
DeleteIt seems to be one of those years for odd weather, downunder friends have had unseasonal temperatures and floods. Nothing so different here in Japan, mostly grey low clouds and rain with a fine day once a week. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteHello, Japan! Enjoy your trip. At least you get the one fine day once a week while we only get the odd fine hour...
