Entry: Vespa scootin' lawyer and Moto-Blogger from Montreal. As of late, David himself had been getting his feet wet in the motorcycle department, and renting a Harley Davidson while on his recent vacay in Florida, had left him with a pronounced desire for more.
It seemed only natural that David and I would become partners in crime at one point. A joint ownership would solve the most pressing issues on my part, as there were: registration and (bargain!) insurance for the bike, necessary shelter when parked, plus a helping hand for tinkering. On the other hand David would be a willing rider for when the bike’s legs (wheels) needed stretching, and most importantly for both of us: sharing the costs in terms of procurement, maintenance, upgrades and accessories! Done deal, mate!
Ever so the closet pirate, David didn't need any coaxing into a cruiser type motorcycle. We loosely agreed on a budget, and narrowed it down to potential models. The available (spousal approved) funds were to lead us into the versatile Japanese cruiser family. Our quest had begun...

Deutsch-Kanadische Zusammenarbeit
Unsere Suche konnte beginnen...

I'm currently looking at the Kawasaki Vulcan S, even has ABS!
ReplyDeleteNick, I wasn't aware you were bike shopping in the cruiser department... any intention to buy?
DeleteSonja, This is a serious attempt to solve our "tall vs normal" dream bike that we can both ride - I failed miserably with the F650GS! I'm not sure about the legs forward stance and my bad back - but I'm going for a testride that's for sure.
DeletePS I looked at the Yamaha XV 950 but very heavy.
DeleteHow about a Honda Shadow? I find it rather suitable for two up.
DeleteYes we saw one in Wiesbaden last weekend - must investigate - thanks!
DeleteSonja, the first of many posts.
ReplyDeleteThe RAM mounts arrived this week, and the Stebel horn was delivered to my sister-in-law in Florida. She will bring it here when she visits on April 2nd.
Winter has begun to lose its grip. I might be able to pick the bike up as early as next weekend.
David, this is so funny. The bike isn't even there yet and we are already out of control. The next months will be very interesting to say the least.
DeleteDas klingt spannend!
DeleteGood for you! One of my motorcycle buddies had an old BMW he used to loan to visiting friends, including some from Europe. A generous gesture that made many people happy.
ReplyDeleteAllie, I believe it is a good start to get into the exploration mode, and I am so happy that David and I could find common grounds on this.
DeleteGreat idea you too. Collaborate and make your dreams a reality. Looking forward to pics of the shared ride.
ReplyDeleteIt was all David actually, the only thing I had to do is saying yes. I hope that he will soon be able to get out and ride our "baby".
DeleteWhen I retire I want yo keep a Guzzi at my buddy's place in Italy. Airbnb for old motorcyclists...the future may be interesting.
ReplyDeleteMichael, you might be up to something here. Like couch surfing, bike included.
DeleteVery clever way to ensure one has access to a motorcycle when traveling overseas....and yes, rental is not cheap though I am surprised to hear one can rent an RV for the same price per day.
ReplyDeleteDom, it is ridiculous but true. Motorcycle rental costs are crazy at least for us from overseas. Maybe because we are such bad riders, since we don't get proper training over here ;-)
DeleteCool idea! Any idea what the 'baby' is at this stage or is it still in the search mode stage?
ReplyDeleteDar, we have made progress already ;-)
DeleteSounds like a great collaboration. Can't wait to hear more about how it all works out.
ReplyDeleteThanks, knowing David it will work out perfectly.
DeleteYours is the best definition of a partnership and I can't wait for what's next.
ReplyDeleteCoop, I am sure it will be a mutually beneficial deal, and we will make the most out of it.
