Time's up, Mr Snowman! - Schneemanns Zeit ist abgelaufen!

I had different plans for the week, plans of cleaning the cobwebs off the bike(s), getting the Harley re-approved by TÜV (motor vehicle inspection - same procedure as every two years), and enjoying some spring-like temperatures. I couldn't have been more wrong. We got yet another dump of snow the other night.

Falsch gedacht. Aber sowas von. Denn letzte Nacht gab es wieder Neuschnee.

Oddly motivated by last week's mild temperatures I had dared storing away my winter jacket. Hence, I had to retrieve it from the depth of my closet in order to get dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. Sigh!

Seufz!

Not much going on in the forest. It was quiet, not even the birds were singing. They were probably as miffed by the sight of another load of white stuff as we were.

The hiker's hut is 33 years old but it doesn't show its age. The shelter is not meant for overnighters, its purpose is for picnic and also to protect from bad weather.

Next to the hut you'll find a potable water source. These artesian wells are often found within a short distance from shelters.

The sign reads:
The spring is for the rich and poor, for young and for the old.
In winter the water is warm, and in the summer cold.
Therefore, dear hiker, quench your thirst with caution,
first eat a piece of bread, and if you have a sausage, too.

We drank from it several times, and never got sick. I guess, the water is as clean as it can get.

Meanwhile in the valley the snow had already begun to melt away. Just you wait, Mr Snowman. Your days are surely numbered.

  1. I’ve only needed my “winter coat” maybe a half dozen times this winter. The fall/spring coat has been more than sufficient when layered with a fleece jacket. The fleece is actually the liner from my First Gear riding jacket and will be missed when it wears out. I’ve already replaced the zipper once so it no longer zips into the riding jacket.

Even though you are tired of the snow, it still makes for some great photos.

    1. I like my down jacket best while exercising a.k.a. hiking. It's not the outfit one wears while moving, but while resting and cooling down, my down jacket keeps me warm.

  2. Everything looks better with a coating of fresh snow does it not? I say this as I'm presently boondocking and snow is expected overnight. Not much snow though, I'll be surprised to see any accumulation and temperatures are going to be above freezing the rest of the week. I'm just hoping for no mud to bar my exit from the State Wildlife Area.

    1. I agree, Dom. It's not the snow that's getting on my nerves, it's the cold. I am ready for spring. Keeping my fingers crossed, that you won't get stuck in the mud.

  3. You will be happy to see Mr. Snowman demise. Shouldn't be too much longer. I am surprised you are still getting snow. We woke to temperatures right at freezing and fog, but luckily it will warm up today a bit.

The trails are pretty with all the snow around them.

    1. Winter lingered a bit too long this year, and was a wee bit too wet and too cold. Like yourself we are very much looking forward to warmer temps, Brandy. My two-wheelers need some serious attention...
