Highland Bog - Hochlandmoor

This hotel has the world's best cereal / muesli selection, we have never seen so many options and ingredients, and of course also in gluten free!

For today I just have planned a 10k stroll in the area as I am interested in the botanical features of the highland bog called Wildsee.

Brown coloured water, doesn't look potable, or does it?
Braunes Wasser, sieht nicht appetitlich aus.

Beware of trolls - Vorsicht, Trolle!

At Wildsee: It's amazing how vegetation finds a way to survive in the acidic soil. Highland bogs have become a rare phenomenon in Europe due to peat harvesting. Over centuries the area had been drained to harvest peat but these days it's a natural wildlife reserve.

This was an interesting detour. And now it's back to work. But soon I will be back in Forbach in order to continue my section-hike on the West Trail.

    1. Haven't seen one, though... Bigfoot, eh? That's something we don't have here.

  2. It looks like “buggy” area. Very pretty though. I like the troll sign...

  5. Absolutely stunning. A perfect mix of water, forest, and walking paths. That and the weather remind me of a stroll I did in Belgium one morning while my friend and host was in class, but it was not a highland by any stretch.
