Last thoughts

Tools and gear for the road is already packed, and laundry is done. The air pressure is checked, the bike is lubed and fueled, and ready to go. I convinced my fellow traveler to assist me but all I wanted was his company in the garage. I did the work myself and had to use quite a bit of Fast Orange afterwards, to get my hands back into an 'office presentable' shape. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed working on my bike, and I am seriously considering taking motorcycle maintenance lessons to learn more about it. I am not ready for a career change just yet, but one never knows...

Only a few more days to go before my riding buddy and I will be leaving for Oregon. Our stop-overs will be in Toppenish, Bend, Lincoln City and Tumwater, all in all about 2,000 km. That doesn't sound much, but I haven't been on a major road trip in thirteen years, so besides my excitement a little nervousness might be in order. We are looking forward meeting some fellow bloggers, as well as having some beach time. I can't wait to test Nella's (and my) roadworthiness. Meanwhile my significant other will - for a change - be left in charge of our household.

Fraser River Delta

Ein traumhaft schöner Tag liegt vor uns: Deutschland wird nicht ganz unerwartet Dritter in der Fussball WM, und angenehme 24 Grad locken uns mal wieder ans Wasser. Davon gibt es hier ja genug, entweder als Seen, Flüsse oder Ozean. Im Delta des Fraser River gibt es auf Westham Island ein Paradies für Vogelbeobachter. 

Im Hintergrund sieht man noch die Coast Mountains, wir befinden uns ca. 30 km südlich von Vancouver Downtown.

Die Tiere scheinen überhaupt keine Furcht zu haben.

Wir beobachten neben verschiedener Entengattungen, auch Fischreiher und Kraniche, Schwalben, Kolibris und andere Vögel und Schmetterlinge, deren Namen wir nur erahnen können. Das Bedürfnis nach einem Tierkundebuch kommt auf.

Irgendwann werden wir dann doch hungrig (Entenbrust?), und machen uns auf zu Sharkey's in Ladner, aber nicht ohne noch einen Einkauf auf der Bissett Farm Winery zu machen.

Zunächst die Weinprobe (auf nüchternen Magen...), und dann Roland im Shopping Wahn:

Wein, Weingelees, Marmelade, Honig, Sirups und Gewürzmischung, alles aus eigenem Anbau.

Natürlich gibt es bei Sharkey's Fisch (Das mit der Entenbrust konnten wir nicht über's Herz bringen...)

Danach lassen wir mit vollen Bäuchen Seele und Füsse baumeln.

Bei einer leichten Brise lässt sich das 'Herumhängen' gut ertragen.

Anschliessend fahren wir noch kurz zum Boundary Bay Regional Park. Zur Abwechslung ist mal Flut.

Und bei Höchststand kommt das Wasser bis and den Deich.

Roland gibt nun auf, er hat sich in seinen Flipflops Blasen gelaufen und humpelt nun zurück zum Auto. Zur Feier des Tages vernichten wir nun bei Käse und Crackers eine Flasche Erdbeerfusel.

Today I stopped at the Woodhaven Swamp, an eery place even during daytime... and walked the swamp loop.

I continued to the shore, and spent some time sitting in the sun on the dock. It still had some 30+C.

Back in the parking lot a very sweet and shiny Beemer caught my eye, and it's owner had obviously spotted my Nella. First I thought that must be The daily Rider, because the model was an R1200R. 

He wasn't, but the guy had actually met Lumpycam somewhere on the loop. Meet Mike Z., a reborn rider (2 years ago) and professional photographer. He had recognized my Nella from the Video that Bob had taken on my maiden voyage. Motorcycle riding is about riding as well as meeting people. Small world, this WWW. Ride on, Mike.
