The (unsuccessful) Quest for Spring
After a lazy morning on the sofa we ventured out for a quick round trip through our valley. Our mission: Finding signs of spring. Even at noon we only had single digit temperatures, and a cold breeze almost managed to push us back into our warm and cosy home. But we stood stalwart, and braved the weather. Spring however was nowhere to be seen.
We encountered a squad of biological lawnmowers, but they didn't know anything with regards to the whereabouts of spring.
They turned their backs on us and preferred to ignore us while we were trying to get through.
Also the trees didn't have the right answer for us, however they seemed as eager as ourselves to actually meet spring again.
Finally we got word from the daffodils that spring is supposed to be just around the corner. It's expected to arrive sometime next week. Well, let's hope they are right.

What a beautiful post. Poetic and visually pleasing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ally. That's very kind of you.
Delete-16 here this morning with a stiff north wind, so even a dreary, cool day with no snow on the ground would be welcomed. Trust the daffodils!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr, getting cold just reading this. I will take your advice and trust the yellow flowers.
DeleteSonja, it sounds like you're closer to the warm than we are.....I'm still happy for you and hope that it's just around the corner! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Coop. I look forward to spring, this winter has been unusually long...
DeleteActually, that IS springtime around here. And we have a whole week of rain, snow, sleet ahead. I'll be closed up in a heated greenhouse with flowers... :^)
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful landscape. Tea time!
It was tea time and hot tai soup time after, Martha. We were quite cold after the ride.
DeleteSonja - though the photos remind me more of November than April they are stunning. The daffodil can't be wrong.
ReplyDeleteKaren, you are right, the colours are more November-like, it also feels more like it.
DeleteSuch dramatic skies make for beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe daffodils are a sure sign the trees will be leafing out soon.
Thanks, Brandy. So, you also believe the daffodils can be trusted?
DeleteYes, yes I do. :-)
DeleteI like the bell on your bike, bells are cool! I'm off to search your blog for more bicycle photos, that front wheel has piqued my interest.
ReplyDeleteBrad, the bell makes a lovely sound. People always smile back when I use it. The wheels are SCHWALBE FAT FRANK 26”X 2.35” balloon tires.
DeleteYour post inspired us to go for a ride today, I took my Electra Relic. Blog post coming.
DeleteEvery bicycle needs a bell, if nothing else than to alert other cyclists and pedestrians that you are passing them (on the left). Saying something works but the bell just seems more cheerful. I like the photos, that's kind of what our spring usually looks like.
ReplyDeleteRichard, exactly that, yet many cyclists don't have one and just blast through no matter what.
DeleteYep that still looks pretty cold, it coming into Autumn here now and its still in the mid 20°C here. It must drive you guys batty with those cold winters. Not for me i'm afraid Sonja. Good luck with the weather and may it soon be warm for you.
ReplyDeleteMid 20°C in autumn? I guess I could get used to this...
DeleteSpring is definitely passing through Colorado now, should be at your location sometime next week! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know, Dom. Can't wait to see it...
DeleteError 404 Spring not found :-)
DeleteOooooh!! Wollis! Das löst bei mir höchste Verzückung aus! :)
