The weather couldn't have been better than this, and again delivered perfect riding conditions. While spring has gone into full force in the valley, vegetation still looks a bit different on 1000m elevation. There has been some sprouting and budding going on, but it was as if nature was still tentative and in disbelieve that winter is finally over.
Das Wetter konnte nicht besser sein und zeigte sich wieder von seiner besten Seite. Während der Frühling im Tal ja schon in vollem Gange war, sah es auf 1000m Höhe noch anders aus. Auch wenn die Vegetation hier und da schon zögerlich ein paar Knospen trieb, sah es fast so aus, als wenn die Natur noch nicht ganz glauben konnte, dass der Winter endlich vorüber sein sollte.
For me it has somewhat become a tradition to travel along the B500 a.k.a. Black Forest Scenic road at the beginning of every riding season. This time of the year traffic should be bearable, and two and four wheeled idiots are usually a minority. Well, at least that's what I hoped for.
Für mich ist es zu Beginn jeder Mopped-Saison inzwischen schon fast zu einer Tradition geworden, mal wieder die B500 - auch bekannt als Schwarzwaldhochstraße - entlang zu fahren. Um diese Zeit ist wenigstens der Verkehr noch erträglich und ich hatte die Hoffnung, dass zwei- und vierrädrige Idioten noch in der Minderheit sein würden.
Alas, it wasn't to be uneventful. There was an accident ahead. A biker had lost control and wiped out himself. I didn't want to join the gathering of rubberneckers, turned around and took a different route back home. The season has started indeed, but not in the best way for this male rider. I sincerely hope that he's going to be on a quick road to recovery by now. To all of you out there, ride safe and keep the rubber side down.
Leider war die Fahrt dann doch nicht ganz so ereignislos. Auf der Strecke hatte sich gerade ein Unfall ereignet. Ein Moppedfahrer hatte in einer Kurve die Kontrolle über sein Fahrzeug verloren und sich ohne Fremdverschulden von der Straße geschossen. Da ich mich nicht der Gruppe der Schaulustigen anschließen wollte, drehte ich um und nahm einen anderen Weg nach Hause. Die Saison fängt ja gut an... Ich hoffe, dem Mann geht es den Umständen entsprechend gut. Passt gut auf da draußen und bleibt mit dem Gummi auf der Straße.
Beautiful photos! Though is still looks kind of cold. Are the roads pretty clean of sand and gravel from winter?
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, the main roads have already been cleaned up. But when traveling on minor roads there might still be remnants of debris and gravel.

DeleteBeautiful pictures Sonja! Spring is reluctantly here, it has been excruciatingly rainy, cold, and very grey. Insured my bike, but only ridden twice, I just do not feel like slogging it out in the rain.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dar. We have had an unusually warm April this year. If this is how climate change works, I won't be complaining. However, winter was also colder than usual.

DeleteGreat pictures Sonja. Sad that it was cut short because of the accident. Unfortunately sometimes people don't realize their skills are a little rusty in the Spring.
ReplyDeleteEverything here seems to be leafing out or blooming. Even our weather is improving. Now that I am back to work we are supposed to see temperatures of 75˚F (23.8 ˚C) next week.
Hope, you will still get your share of spring weather and temps, Brandy, despite the new job. Thankfully days as days are still getting longer, one can use the afternoons and evenings for quick ventures.
