Wow ! I'm envious. I would love to be on the road but no rides planned this year. I can only hope to see your photos of places I've never been

    1. Bob, this is our only planned road trip so far, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. I hope that you'll enjoy the pics we brought back from the trip.

  2. Wonderful trip, I'm envious but could just not do it on a scooter! Enjoy

    1. Given the speed limits, and small roads the scooters were in fact the ideal means of transportation. Plus it seemed to make the locals very proud that we did it on Vespas.

    1. It was for us, too David. That begs the question: What do we want to do next?

  8. WOW, what a trip! Total RESPECT to the two of you for doing 3,343 kms on your Vespa's. I have seen the photos on your other blog and they are spectacular. The summary above is just fantastic. I bow my head in admiration. You two just climbed the ladder of my 'best bikers' list. I am so jealous, I want to buy a Vespa and do the same!

    1. From you, Gary that's an honour. It would certainly be interesting to see you on a Vespa ;-)
Well, actually the scooters had all we needed on the rather small roads we were traveling. We didn't miss power, and were riding in a rather defensive mode (overtaking a truck going 90 km/m... not really an option).

I'm not surprised that Vespa's can handle this kind of long distance commute. Modern scooters are more capable than people think. Last summer I did 3300 km on my SYM Citycom loaded with camping gear across British Columbia to Banff and Jasper and then west on the TransCanada. A highlight was the Rogers Pass in a snowstorm then on to Williams Lake to visit family. Most of the time I was travelling at 100-110 kph. I must admit I did enjoy the look of stunned disbelief on the faces of 'real' bikers. I envy you your trip in Italy however. that's now on my bucket list.

    1. David, isn't it cool that these trips can be done an small bikes, too? The weird thing seems that one gets a lot more attention than when you travel on a seemingly appropriate bike with 1000cc or more.

    1. It really didn't feel that much. We were surprised at the end how many km we had racked up.

  11. Wundervoll, Wundervoll!
