A fit of claustrophobia? Frak! I remembered that this had happened to me before, and that's why in the past I always carried a 3/4 helmet as a spare. Hence, I will have to buy one for next season.
My favorite choice would probably be the ARAI SZ RAM III.
Pros: pleasant design, light, comfy, has good padding, and a large visor for eye protection.Cons: less safe than a full-face, increased wind noise, expensive.
Now I am going to put my Hawk back in storage. I guess, I am done with riding this year. Wow, that was scary. :-(

ReplyDeleteI am the same as you. I use a 3/4 helmet. I bought a modular over a year ago but my glasses get in the way and I am not used to the tunnel vision. You have to turn your head to look both directions and gets very tiring. The 3/4 is much safer as you can see with much less effort.
With the Modular (Full face with moveable chin bar) I feel like I am trapped inside.

I am kinda glad that I am not alone with this. Actually I had totally forgotten about my issue with confined spaces when I bought the full face helmet. What brand/model have you chosen?

ReplyDeleteWe actually ride because we don't like confined spaces. All around all you can see is air and scenery. You look up and see the sky. But with a full face helmet you are always riding in a tunnel, so very claustrophobic. I even have to turn my head downward to see the gauges. so I'll stick to 3/4, thank you.
My NEW Modular helmet is a no-name, push a button and the whole chin guard hinges upward. I wanted to get a full face modular but most have problems when wearing glasses, except for the HJC that I recently saw. It had a much larger opening. Too bad they don't make a 3/4 with a metal bar to protect your chin with a wire see through mesh of some sort
